Pyramid gold flats - soundclip (new link posted)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Just recorded this clip over a ready-made backing track for a just-for-fun bassline competition on a Finnish forum. The playing is a bit sloppy, but I really like the sound of my Fender Jazz (see profile) with these Pyramid gold strings on. It's a fat sound with a lot of bass, but not overly thumpy. I've never been as satisfied with my sound before as I am with these strings. For the recording, I used both pickups and tone fully on, and a preamp/compressor (ART Tube Pac) in between. The compressor was active, but I didn't eq or modify the signal at all in the computer. It's all flat (pun intended)

Sorry the linked page is in Finnish, but I think you can find the Play button anyway.

I wish these strings were cheaper over in the US so you all would have the opportunity to test them. I got them for €30, whereas I've heard you have to pay around $80 (about twice as much) for them...

By the way, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a sticky in this forum where people can post soundclips on basses with different strings on? I've seen soundclips here in various threads, but having them compiled all in one thread (even as links to the actual posts) would be very useful.

That bass sounds really good, I may just have to go back to flats.

Is the "gold" just a name, or are they actually gold plated strings?

Also, what's the other instrument in that track that sounds like a sitar?

I've hit the play button several times but get no sound.

I love the Pyramid Gold strings. I have used them exclusively on one of my basses.

Pyramid Gold Flats

Pyramid (gold) Flats are the senior ministers of Flat bass strings whether in Long or short scale (Dean Markley come in a close 2nd). The Pyramids are not gold coated or finished.I think they refer to them as 'Gold' because somewhere down the line years ago they were their best selling string and highest quality. I have to add here as everybody knows that when it gets down to it, it is a matter of one's own preferences. I mean some people like strings that are commonly referred to as 'round wound' (shudder!!).

I had the same problem this morning. Restarted my sound interface which solved my problem. Anyway I put the file on zshare as well to see if that helps:

My Pyramid flats are gold coated or plated or something. In fact, that's why I bought them because I wanted some gold finished strings to match my black and gold themed MIM Fender Jazz.

I checked out the Pyramid homepage and they don't seem to make any gold plated bass strings... are you sure those are Pyramids? See my avatar on how my pyramid golds look like.

There seem to be a few brands of gold plated bass strings on the market though.

EDIT:
By the way I did a new recording to the following bassline contest, using the same bass and settings as in the previous one I linked to above:
http://maihinnousu.net/s/?song_id=2179

In this track, I played with palm muting except for a short solo part that I happened to **** up a bit by playing over the wrong chord.

I think I may have been mistaken. The strings I have are Optima's. I got them off of ebay around May of last year. When I was looking for a gold string, the name Pyramid Gold kept popping up and SOMEHOW I ended buying these strings. Sorry for interrupting your thread. Take care!
