so i play only 5 string basses, reggae, and flats. So searchin around the forum it seems everyone likes pyramid gold flats. personally i have two basses both with labella 760fm's. they sound really good, i love these strings. but i have a 3rd bass on the way and want to try some new strings. I have tried rotos (77&88) ghs customs, fender, and labellas. l like the ghs and la bellas, but i want something new.
now pyramids go for $73 for the four string set and $32 for the B string alone. they dont make 5 string packs. so $105 for strings....?.so i want to know from thos who have em(especially 5 ers) if they are really worth that much...are they really the thudduest?

i've tried labellas, chromes, rotos, fenders, and pyramid flats and the pyramids are the bassiest and thuddiest.
i prefer the labellas due to their low mid bump that really gives them a great fingerstyle tone.
the pyramids don't have that, but that low E has bass and low end for DAYS! |

Big sound, more grounded and old school sound then LaBella FM's which I have tried. I only play 4-bangers, only blues and classic rock.
I think it is worth a try and if you don't like them, sell them on the classifieds here for 80% of the price you paid.
BTW Elderly instruments usually has a 4 string set for $60. |

Personally, I go for a real Pino-like upright tone and I find TI flats are the best because with their lighter tension, I can touch the bass so many different ways to get such a wide range of sounds. And they all sound fat, warm, and articulate. I recall the Pyramid Gold E being fatter than the rest of the strings which gave it this great thud, but it sounded and felt wrong compared to the rest of the set. Let us know how you find them.... |

The real problem turned out to be my amp. Once I upgraded my amp to a GK MB210 the true tone of the B came out and it sounded GREAT! I agree that the price of the B string alone is outrageous. But look at it this way. If you like the strings, they will probably out live you and your bass. |

They sent me the b string only and marked on my orderform that came with the b string that the other 4 strings were on backorder and didn't and still won't giveme an eta. So I received no email after my purchase, letting me no that they didn't have them or that they were on bo. So I have no idea when they are comin but they reasured me they would ship as soon as they got them. That's great and all but that's not what I care about. I care about how long will it take for them to get the strings

I'm using TI's on two of my basses and $70 a 5-string set is as high as I'm willing to go. |
