Question about crimping round wounds.. (im new to roundwounds)

Was reading box and it said before cutting excess string length you must crimp and cut below the crimping point...I just wanted to verify with someone here how to correctly do that:
Do I cut like the left picture or the right picture?
Cut it like the right picture. What the crimp does is keeps the windings from unwrapping from the core. If you cut it like the left picture you cut off the crimp you just made and it's the same as doing nothing.
I actually would cut the string right in the middle between the two pictures. It makes it easier to stick that end of string into the hole in the center of my tuning machine.
