Question about Flatwounds

Sign in to disble this ad
Bass is a Schecter Elite 5- Neckthrough. I have been using roundwounds .045-.130, I play w/ a pick and get some pick noise and some fret noise. I can eq alot of it out, but Flatwounds have my curiosity. I dont want to have to file the nut ,so, if I try flats that are .045-.130, I wont have to file the nut right? I am looking for a richer somewhat duller rounder sound because the pick adds so much bite and brightness to my sound it is almost too much. Do you think flatwounds are for me?

Try half rounds, and if you want to kill more of the high end go to flats. I am a big fan of GHS Brite Flats at the moment. They have a great tone, good feel, high tension, and they cost about $21.00us.

No, you won't have to file the nut.
