A question about string availability and cost outside the USA

Sign in to disble this ad
As I read posts from time to time, I feel extremely fortunate about the availability and cost of music related gear in the US. For those outside the US, where would you say is the hardest to find, and costliest place to buy bass strings?

The worst is in developing countries. YOu can't find anything and when you do it's insanely expensive.
Within developed countries, Australia seems to be the less fortunate when it comes to music gear.

I figured that most likely would be the case. I guess I'm looking for specifics. The reason I am asking is, I have an idea. Whether or not it's feasible is another thing, but it would go something like this. Being this is a string forum, we constantly see people changing strings whether it be looking for that elusive tone, because they don't like what they are currently using, or because they feel they're old, and it's time. How great would it be to send a set we no longer have need of, to someone who can't afford or have access to them. While I'm sure there are plenty of cases just like that in the US, we at least have the ability to find all we want. As you mentioned, I would agree there are many in developing countries that can not. I see used strings in the for sale forums all the time, but for us that can afford them, and often just throw out sets we no longer need, this might be a very worthwhile and rewarding venture.

Practical case : in local shops in my town, a set of EB Slinky costs 30-35 €, roughly us$45.
If you go online you will get them for 25 €, plus shipping of course.
I buy them from USA in 10 packs.
