Question about Tapered strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Will a "taper core" string, specifically DR Long Necks, sit correctly on a string-thru-body bridge? It's just always seemed to me that more string length is taken up between where the strings are anchored and the saddle, on string through bridges.

I dont know if this is correct or not, or how much it varies depending on what type of bridge it is. but im concerned that the tapered part wont sit across the saddle as it normally should with a tapered string.

Their are only two brands of these types of strings that will work for string through body:

1. DR Long Necks (taperwound) - These were designed for string through body basses. They have a longer than normal taper length and do not work so great on standard bridges. The longer the taper is past the bridge saddle, the more out of tune the string will sound higher up the neck.

2. Rotosound RS99 Piano String Design (exposed core) - These have an adjustable ball end that allows you to adjust the exposed core portion to suit and length. They work fine on a string through body bass. I've used them on my jazz bass and someone that frequents the Dudepit bass forum (TA Curtis) swears by them.

awsome, thanks for the help!

I'm a big fan of DR. I've been wanting to try out the Long Necks for a while. I normally use Hi-Beams, or SS Lo-Riders. A friend of mine suggested trying out taper core strings because he likes them so much, so I figured I'd try DR first.

I wasn't aware that the Long Necks were designed for string through body bridges, but that works out perfectly.

Carvin's strings are taper core, and they work fine for through body stringing.
