Question about windings on new TI Jazz Flats

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I recently replaced the stock Elixir roundwounds on my bass with TI Jazz flats and I have a question about the windings for anyone else who has the same strings.

Are the windings supposed to be right up close against each other or should they have some space between them?

On my set the 3 upper strings feel really smooth and the windings are very close, but on the 3 bass strings the windings seem to have some space between them and they feel rougher.

Did I get a bad set or are they supposed to be like this?

Thanks,

Oobly

No, that's normal. That's just how they are.

That's what gives them their flexibility they are known for. They are roundcore and nickel plated as well, which makes them very unusual in the world of flatwounds.

Thanks guys, that eases my mind a lot. The tension is nice and even across strings (even thought the B is really thick) and they sound great! Very "expressive" strings. Now I can relax about my strings and rock on!

I love the TB community

As has been said, completely normal.

Best strings on the planet! Love TI Flats.

They're not nickel plated, the wrap is a special nickel alloy (fairly pure IIRC). Another thing unique about them which contributes to their supple feel is that they put a silk layer between the core and the windings.

Thanx for the correction, zomby. I had forgotton about the silk. I'd have to say that in this day of high-priced overrated products, TI makes a set strings that are actually worth what they cost and are exceptional quality.
