a question in the Fender tapered flatwound B

Sign in to disble this ad
I would like to put a set of Fender (new issue - the "big F" set) 9050-5 flats (.045 to .125) on my 34" scale bass. I ordered a set, but when they came in, I discovered the B is a taper wound, unlike the rest of the set. I am looking for a the old Thump- Duck Dunn, Jamerson, etc., and my concern is with the sustain of the tapered string - will it match the sustain (or rather, lack of it) of the rest of the set? I hope somebody here has that B on their bass and can tell me about it.

One more Question- can I put a set of 35" flats on a top load 34" bass without messing up the strings?
