I bought a brand new Peavey Cirrus 5 BXP last October, and I haven't changed the strings on it since I got it, in other words, I still have the factory strings on my bass. My bass has Peavey strings, and with that in mind, it's obviously time to get some new strings. My question is, should I continue using Peavey strings or branch out onto other brands. One thing in mind was...I was checking out some super slinky Ernie Balls in the store the other day, and I was wondering if they were good to use for jazz and heavy metal (only two styles of music I play)...and if they were quality strings, etc. I'm honestly a newbie when it comes to strings, so, I'm asking for a little advice...thanks! |

They are preety bright the first week or so, but it wears off and u get the thump. I'll keep SS's on for 3-4 months b4 changing them. My only complaint is that sumtimes if your hands are rle dry your lines dont come out as smooth cuz u tend 2 "stick" to the strings, for lack of a better word.
As for buying factory strings, other than Fender strings, I wouldent buy em' |

I should have an RBX765A with me anytime soon, which will be my first 5 stringer and I'm thinking of going with the EB strings again.
I've heard the Standard Slinky's are good for 5 string (compared to the slinky's) because of the slightly heavier B (.130 I think) because I'm so impressed with the set I have on my 4 string.
I'm no expert by any means, I've only been playing about 7 1/2 months! just thought I'd throw in an opinon anyhow.
So unless anyone else can say otherwise, I'd recommend them.
(Oh and first post, Hi all, btw )

I'll feedback on the 5 string set once I get them (hopefully tomorrow) |

When compared to Elixers, TIs, Sadowskys, DRs, LaBellas and such that are $40-50 a pop, that's significantly cheaper for me. But ya, bass strings in general aren't cheap. That's the only area that I'm envious of guitarists in...... |

rock.

Turns out I'm going to have to wait until Tuesday/Wednesday next week to report on the 5 string set as the music shop needs to order them in. They'll be £30 ($57) still, I think they're definately worth it IMO anyway.
You're right about being envious of guitarists for their low string costs, I nearly died when I found out from a friend that a complete set only cost him £7! ($13) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
