hey , I like my action on the high side usually around 3mm @ the 12th fret , but I noticed that on the basses Ive tried these strings on I need it up around 4 mm , I like to get rid of all the buzz unamplified o you guys that like lower action have some buzz in the upper frets?

I also string my basses with TI flats and keep my "action" high enough to avoid hearing fret clatter and buzzing strings.

Looks like:
3mm from the top of the fingerboard to the bottom of the "E" string on my fretless P-bass;

3mm from the top of the fingerboard to the bottom of the "B" string on my fretless 55-02;

4mm from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the "B" string on my fretted fivers.

Hope this helps.

I switched from Fender 9050's 3 years ago
At first I had to kepp my action a little higher than I like
After 4-6 months of steady gigging, I could lower my action to my liking
I concluded that I adapted to the low tension

In the beginning I almost took the strings off, but I held on...
happy I did, love'm now

And.. they get better with age ~ enjoy

3mm at the 3rd fret is high? thats what i have my 69 jazz with TI's at. it's as low as i can go without fret buzz so for me its low action.

FWIW, what I noticed with TI's is that they actually sound better if I don't dig in as much as I usually do ... in a way they are kind of string I need to 'learn' to play, if that makes any kind of sense ... I definitely feel myself wanting to use a 'lighter touch' with these, but I am still on the fence if I am completely sold on them, but they are unique ...

They grow on you... JF's just need a lighter touch. As we age, moving to a lighter touch makes a lot of sense, finger joint health wise.

BTW - If you like TIJF's you may also want to try LaBella tapes wound flats. I've been a huge TI fan. Currently I have 2 PJ's setup with Chromes for rock gig's and open mic support - All my piezo basses (I'm up to 6 including the UBass) are strung with LaBella tapes at this point. Well except for the little rubber stringed monster.

They are very warm and woody when broken in. Less ringing than with TI's which may or may not do it for you. I really like them a bunch in acoustic support / light jazz settings.
