Questions with regards to flatwounds

Sign in to disble this ad
Last night, I went out to guitar center (Got huge deals and spent 80 bucks on close to 120 dollars worth of stuff) and grabbed a set of strings. I was originally looking for Harris Rotosounds. I instead picked up some chromes. Will picking mess flatwounds up? I love them. But I also play with picks alot. So if it does... Also, how come these strings are so good for me, but I've heard they suck for metal, my primary genre?

Picking won't hurt flats, I actually think flats sound better picked than rounds do.

I play flats exclusively, and although my band may not be exactly in the metal genre, it's very heavy rock. If it sounds right to you, then it is right.

Steve Harris from Iron Maiden has used flatwounds for YEARS... hence his signature series string. What style of music does he play again?...

I really wish they made those in a 5 string set

There are flat 5 (no pun intended) sets available. D'Addario ECB81-5 and ECB81-5SL for 35" scale basses.

I meant the Steve Harris set in a 5 string package. I love the gauges offered, but I'd have to buy an extra heavy single for the 5th and I'm having trouble finding singles for a decent price. If someone would just make a damned HEAVY gauge 5 string flatwound set, I'd be a happy camper....

The Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 HEAVY gauge set is the same gauge as the Steve Harris set, but as far as my searches have taken me, they do not offer the 5 string Jass Bass 77's in HEAVY. I'm assuming it is because the heaviest string they have to offer is a ,130 and that just wouldn't be heavy enough to really go with the other gauges in their heavy jazz set.

And yes, I know Steve Harris doesn't play a 5er, but nice attitude.
