Quick help needed IDing a set of Flats

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy all,

I recently acquired a bass that is strung with flats. The guy I bought it from knew nothing about them, said they were on there when he picked it up 3 years ago. They sound really nice and I'd like to be able to get a 2nd set.

Only identifying mark I have on them is that the windings are a lime green color.

Any ideas? I've only played D'Addarios (blue windings) and TI Jazz Flats (red).

thanks!

flats with green winding

Hi uglycicles,

the PYRAMID flatwounds (Pyramid Gold) has a green winding, which are often used together with the Hofner Violin Bass ("The Beatles Bass"), because Pyramid is/was also the producer of the "Hofner Strings". Both, Pyramid an Hofner, are German companies.

Here is a text from the PYRAMID homepage "
PYRAMID Gold Pure Nickel Flat Wound Bass Guitar Strings, the ultimate musical string. The Flat Wounds are the best of the best - without peer - no one else make this type of string anymore !!
The Flat Wounds produce the original bass sound of the late 50īs to middle 60īs (great for all type of music). With the Flat Wounds you can have lower action than possible with round wound strings & also you get no finger noise ! "

I think this will help !

All the best !
