Quick question about D'Addario Chromes
Just a quck one.
I'm building a Bass at the moment and I'm using a Schaller Roller Bridge (not string through body).
Now I've read somewhere on a couple of posts here that Chromes have a very long silk winding at the ball end that can be a bit much for bridge mounted strings.
So roughly how logs is the silk section?
Just eyeballing them, the ecb81 versions (45-100) have about 1/2 an inch of silk. They didn't sit on the saddles of my Fender, but if they do on your Schaller bridge, it wouldn't hurt anything to cut a little of it off.
Measuring my midscale chromes right now...
Will edit post then with measurements.
Okay in centimeters with the start of the ruler touching the close tip of the ball end:
E - 2.5cm
A - 2.0cm
D - 2.1cm
G - 2.3cm
Hope this helps.
ball end silk is 3/4" to 7/8" from string side of ball on mine.
Don't worry about silk. Some strings dont even have it. Buy whatever strings you like to play, and cut off the silk if it touches the bridge.
1 inch is fine so I'll be getting a set.
Thanks for the help.
