Quick question...Can I switch strings?

I have flats that are just begining to get worn in on my J, can I take them off and put them on my P?

Sure you can do that. Especially if you don' t have an extra sets of strings.

Do both basses have inline headstocks and are they both the same scale length? The only problem would be if the strings are cut too short for the bass you want to put the stings on. Most P and J basses are 34" scale and have inline headstocks, so the answer is usually yes.

If you remove and re-install a set of strings again and again, it will shorten the life of them, but a few times is no big deal at all. It's not different than letting down all of the tension for some kind of repair.
