Anybody try these strings out yet? Just the notion of them being gold has me curious.

As an aside, the line from the Payback is "I don't know Karate, but I know Ka-razy" as in crazy, not razor. Great song BTW. |

I've listened to this line dozens of times to decipher it, and I wouldn't besmirch the genius of the late, great JB by misquoting him. Don't do me...no durn favor I don't know karate, but I know ka-razor
Dang, maybe I will start a poll with the interpretation of this lyric as the subject. You're the third person who's made this comment!
Anyhow, anybody try these strings? And on a side note, anybody see the mid-80's picture of Journey in GW's Bass Guitar with Randy Jackson with a Kid 'n Play do?

There is a line of Dean Markley Alchemy acoustic guitar strings available (for a few years now) that use the same coating. |

The Dean Markley rep told me they were designed for Bill Dickens (who uses the SR2000). The set I tried were taperwound just like the SR2000. I think with the new Randy Jackson sets, they've changed the metals used. Plus, they aren't taperwound (which is a good thing to me). They said the Bill Dickens set was complete stainless steel with the special gold coating. The new Alchemy sets use nickelplated steel for the final wrap with the gold coating. I'm very anxious to get these and I will post a review. |

Ka-razy doesn't make any kind sense. Oh, as for strings Dean Markely Will Lee SR200's.
P.S.
I hate gold anything on basses so that alone wpuld keep me from ever trying them.

| | Registered User | | | | | never tried the strings . . . In spite of Randy's decent bass work, his mere affiation with that god-awful tv show that is ruining music forever would prevent me from ever trying his strings. Shouldn't he go back on tour with Journey or something?
Regarding the other aspect of this thread, the line in payback is classic James Brown wordplay, but the line is: I don't know karate, but I know ka-razy
Using the word ka-razor isn't really wordplay at all (that would be only slightly superior to using ka-gun or ka-whatever, for that matter). In fact, ka-razy makes just as much sense as ka-razor and rolls off the tongue with much greater ease (ka-razy is a dramatic pronunciation, whereas, ka-razor is manufactured nonsense--JB's nonsense is much purer than that, just like his funk). JB is merely suggesting that though you may have studied the ancient discipline of martial arts, he is crazy and, thus, will kick your ass. In fact, JB would be insulted if he knew that his line was being understood in that manner (as "ka-razor"). His craziness is stronger than any mere weapon, whether that weapon is Karate or a razor.

. . . in addition, JB never enslaved himself with rules of rhyme or consonance. Your argument does not convince me. |

I must now create a poll.
