If you want the true words to the song, The big Payback, you will find it by going to www.lyrics.com and look up James Brown, then click on the song title. You will find you answer in BIG BOLD LETTERS. It's what I thought it was all the time. You almost had me there for a minute |

You almost had me there for a minute | Every lyric site that I have checked states the lyrics as ka-razy, however I don't think that will be enough to convince those on the ka-razor side (I know that lyric websites are notoriously inaccurate at times).
Of the 10 or so sites I have seen, only one had the lyric written as ka-razor.
Man, this must be what it felt like when the Catholic church was arguing the texts that would later comprise the Bible (. . . and yes, that is a joke). |

As far as the Randy Jackson thing, these Alchemy strings were gonna come out anyway, without his endorsement. They've had an Alchemy acoustic guitar string line for several years now (and they are great strings IMO). That's why I wanted to try them on my bass. The Randy Jackson thing I could care less about. Someone local I know won't even try the DR Marcus Miller Fatbeams because he hates Marcus' music. He also thinks that the only thing they must be good for is slap. He'll never know if they work for him or not. | Thank you. I am far less interested now. I originally understood from and advert that it was a real gold coating... gold polymer is far less tempting. I have used Black Beauties and Elixirs and they're just not the right fit.
Your friend is missing out on Fat Beams... the one hard-core Fat Beam user I know plays better than 90% fingerstyle. His band has Brick House and some other hits in their lineup, but he certainly doesn't throw it like Marcus. OTOH Mark Hoppus puts on a pretty stupid face in most of his Fender ads, so I'll not be buying a baby-poo green bass from him any time soon. |

| It's far from being that complicated. Anyone really familiar with how Brown spoke and sang who actually thinks he's saying kuh-ray-zuh and meant k-razy, raise your hand. This is just plain wrong... listen to the track.
Here: http://odeo.com/audio/4626113/view
When Brown later asks for hits and says he wants the "same one" THREE TIMES, according to the lyrics online he says "Say it once (3xs)". He's asking for the same hit they did before. Why would he say "say it once" three times? That's silly. Heck, some even contain the same typo: "Get ready I need it, I ened a hit again".
Paraphrasing Barbara Billingsley from Airplane: "Can I help? I speak James Brown"
My favorite screwed up lyric other than the K-razy stuff is "Hit 'em again". ANYONE who knows James Brown would know it's "Hit ME!". Trust the sheets on that too?
Those lyrics on line have obviously been copied from one place to another and while they're admirably close for people who don't really listen to Brown, they blew some key Brown phrases.
If you don't know you better ask somebody. |

Yeah, same here. I'm giving these Alchemy strings a try on my search for a coated bass string that might actually sound decent. The strings should arrive by Monday so I'll post an initial impression of them sometime Monday night probably. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2000 Location: From a place lower than low | | I received the strings today. Here's some quick initial impressions after about 2 hours of playing time on them. The strings are on a passive Fender Jazz bas through an Ampeg BA115 combo:
Appearance = Yuck!!! They are gold! Not really a yellow gold, more of a bronze I guess. Some of you may like this. Also, double yuck!! They have purple silk wrap at the headstock end! Again, that may be something some of you may like.
Feel = These strings have quite a smooth feel for roundwounds. The coating is not as obvious as Elixirs, and even less obvious than the DR coated varieties. These strings feel like a very smooth nickelplated steel roundwound.
Sound = Fairly balanced across the whole spectrum. Obviously, being coated, they really don't sparkle on the highs. They remind me soundwise of a broken in set of DR Fatbeams. Good midrange growl.
I'll post more as I get more finger time with them. I won't let the color sway my decision about them |

Unless the writer themselves tells me the lyric, I will never be convinced I'm getting the truth. For that matter, how many times have you read lyrics on the sleeve of a recording that obviously differ from what's being sung on the recording? Very interesting..
Then there's the track on the new Killers' Sam's Town, When You Were Young.. no darn lyrics in the sleeve. And he's singing "The devil's water it ain't so sweet, you don't have to drink right now, but you can dip your feet, every once AND a little while..."
I guess you can butcher a phrase if you want, it's your song..
Also, I'm not claiming to quote any lyrics verbatim here, lol, just pointing out the one grammatical error. Or whatever.. Quote:

If they got "Kung Fu" wrong it's no small wonder they'd get the rest wrong too. See the related thread
So you're saying you knew nothing of razors back in the 70's? Where were you at the time? |
