Question Re-string before studio

Should you restring before going into the studio? I am a slap/fingerstyle player. What is the general consenus. BTW, my strings are not dead. They are not brand new, but not dead. Thanks.

Well, it depends. New strings give you everything as far as tone goes. If you don't want that high-end crispness, then don't worry about it.

Depends on the sound you are going for. I usually change them 5 days of playing away from going in. Just to knock off the glaze that's on'em.

I like to play strings at least 15-20 hours before I gig or record with them to take the zing out of them but keep the clarity of the highs.

Yep, I usually put on new ones about 5 days before a session or an important gig. 5 days is about the optimal for breaking in a new set of strings, when I'm in top playing condition and I'm playing my basses at least three or four hours a day. If you're an hour-a-day guy, give yourself a week or 10 days.
