You shouldnt be breaking strings no matter what make, unless you are using very light gauge. There must be either something wrong with the bridge (most likely a burr of sharp metal) or your technique is much too heavy (which is unlikely as I can pop a string really hard, and it doesnt snap).

String wise it depends whether you prefer Nickel or stainless for slap tone. I prefer stainless steel for slap, as it has a bit more bight, and seems to suit it better. I havent tried Sunbeams, but I hear they are quite mellow, so you probably dont want them for slap.

Yeah i was using a light gauge, 40-100, i hear good things about hi-beams, think i might try them out, mabe use a thicker gauge incase thats why they did snap. from being too like of a gauge.

if its breaking near the bridge, then this is most likely the case. you can file down the saddle with an old broken roundwound string.

but if you want new strings, S.I.T. rock brights are the tops.

Hmm, thats not really that light, unless you pop like a guerilla it may be worth a look at the bridge.

Highbeams are good for slap and last a very long time (if you dont break them!) quite expensive for us UK buyers though.

+1. I use 035-095 and don't break strings. Mark King and Stanley Clarke both use 030-090 sets...
I used to break strings all the time on my Vigier, turned out the bridge/saddles needed some attention. That taken care of my strings breaking days are over.

DR Hi Beams are great, Elites are great. I have experience with the stainless steels only. Elites last a long time. As for ss vs nickel, to my ear ss have stronger mids than nickels. Others may disagree. Both would be fine, in fact so would flats, depends on what you're looking for.

I was using 100-40 gauge for a whiiile and i havent broken a string in years. I do slap alot when im practicing and I havnt had that problem in a long time so I'm guessing it migh be your technique thats causing this. Do you pop very hard? Do you have this problem often?

Nah its not a regular thing, happens every now and again, but never a day after putting them on, and twice with the same make of string, i suppose i do pop pretty hard, but i wouldnt say any harder than anyone else that slap pops. I had some ernie ball slinkys on for the past month or so, and they were fine, its happened twice with the lowriders tho, mabe stingrays just dont agree with them, I've just ordered some DR high beams medium light strings, 45-100, since the G and D are slightly thicker i'm hoping they wont snap, I usually get light ones, but am not taking another chance with light strings just yet, got a recording on saturday and sunday and dont want anything snapping,
