recommend me a string

What I'm looking for is a replacement for DR Lo-Riders.

I want the stiffness of Lo-Riders without the added mids.

I've tried Hi-Beams and Sunbeams and the round cores are just too floppy. I need to raise my action too much to kill the extra buzz. Same goes for LaBella HRS, great tone/feel but too buzzy. D'Addario is not an option, tapers are not an option.

I'm thinking I should stick with hex core. Any other recommendations for a stiff, high tension string to allow lower action without buzz?

Give SIT Power Wound Nickels a try, or Ernie Ball Slinkies if you want a little less punch.

Maybe a coated string?

The light Lo-Riders might help with the buzzing, but you'll probably get more mids. There's always some trade-off.

Have you tried a longer scale bass? Or, maybe a bass with an option to run the strings through the body? One of those might get you what you're looking for.

I have an MTD Heir that doesn't have a lot of mids and it's a 35 1/2" scale. It has a great feel, but I like more mids so I'll probably be selling it on eBay soon.

Lighter strings in the same tuning will have less tension and buzz more.

I have a number of different basses, this particular one is all mahogany - very honkey with deep bottom. I'll still use Lo-Riders on woods like basswood (to add low mids) or all-maple (to add mids in general). String-thru-body doesn't seem to make any difference IME.
