I use the Carvin flats (labella's, really) for my 5. They work quite well, and won't break the bank.

TIs, Chromes, or Sadowskys depending upon your personal tastes.

Just put GHS Brite Flats on my Jazz. I really like them. They have a "snappier" tone than regular flats, which IMO are too muddy sounding.

There have been polls on this.

I'm a Chromes man. Great low B, medium tension, rich sound.

La Bella doesn't make the flats for Carvin anymore. They are GHS Precision Flats, with the purple silks and everything.

The rounds are still La Bellas.

I have used Chromes my five. I have also used GHS Precisions and ordered the B string seperately. They were really old school thumpy while the Chromes were a little brighter.

Several people I know use D'Addarios on their basses. Not too expensive either.

I like TI's on fretless, I think the 5th could be more musical, I like DR Flats on fretted all 5.

I just put a set on my P. I like them, but the D & G have a brighter, different tone than the E & A strings. They seem almost like they're from two different sets, but when they all break in, they should be more balanced. I've also used GHS Precison flats, which are awesome for thick, vintage tone.

But if I bought a Precision V, I'd probably use Chromes. IMO/E, they are a fabulous match for stock American Fender P-bass pickups, and I assume this would be true on the fiver. They sound thick and punchy, but not muddy.
