Recommended strings for experimenting

I'm a new bass player (two lessons behind me) and bought a new five string Ibanez GSR105. I had no idea if the sound was right except based on reviews I found which raved about it for the money. It felt good in my hands so I went for it.
I have one, possibly two questions about strings depending on the answer to the first question.
I purchased the setup plan, which allows me to bring the thing in eight times over two years and they'll do all the basic setup stuff, including changing the strings.
My first question is: Should I bother trying different styles of strings at this point or should I stick with the type that came with the instrument until I have more experience?
If the answer to the first question is go ahead and experiment, the second question is: what would you recommend I try?
I favor old style rock, old motown, and blues (I'm fifty, what a shock I like that stuff). I was inspired to try the bass by Jack Bruce's lines in Sunshine of Your Love, but the first bassline I've learned is Stand By Me, if that tells you anything.
So what do you say?

Establish whether you like flats or rounds, then try some different brands depending on what you can afford. I'd just try and stick with brands that have good reps like Rotosound, GHS, Elixir, etc etc etc. Pretty much all the big name brands make good products.

As soon as you hit on one you like, stick with it forever. You'll get the urge to try new strings every now and again, but you'll likely go running back to whatever you developed a feel for.
