If you think thats a fair lifespan, go for it, I do too, but I have friends who think thats way too short, expecially for coateds and the price. Just letting you know in advance.
Oh, and the colour comes off them where you pick and at the frets, too. Beware if you like the pristine look.

5 string set in aus is about mmm say 60$ for normal strings, paid 105 for the black beauties... so two sets would kill me!
but ive had them for about 5 months and they have lasted, havent come off on the frets just a tiny bit near pickups (I played with a pick mostly using it)... tone is still good,... BUT I since have a newer better bass (k5 with factory fitted elixirs) so havent actually touched the black beauties in a while!
my only problem with the strings (could have been the actual bass tho, was on a rbx375) was they sounded bad for slapping,... very good for rock tone but was too dark/muted slapping? sounded to me like you get the "thump" of slapping but not any of the other normal tones,... my teacher liked it and said it had a distinctly different tone to it tho...
that said I liked the black beauties alot! mixed between DR and elixirs,... even tho I dont play the rbx375 very much any more i do love the dark rock tones I can get out of it with black beauties on it

I like the fact they sound played in and not too bright like some new strings can. Not a fan of ultra bright zingyness. Also they feel great, I played a 3 hour set at the weekend and didn't make my finger feel sore at all like the previous Roto's did.
Only problem I did find is that I had to cut the E string shorter than normal as it was sticking when I flipped my Hipshot D-tuner.
I'll agree the slap sound isn't quite right, but I don't play slap a lot so it's not an issue. I go for a more middly rock sound anyway, so slap never sounds quite right.

I think they're all the same just in different colors - black, blue, red...
He said I should put them on my Stingray, but they fit my Ripper, which generally requires longer strings for the thru-body. So they ended up there.
They look badass on it, because it is all black with black strings, and they really give that bass an in-your-face throaty growl. The coating is supposed to make them last a very long time.
