Regular flats on acoustic

Sign in to disble this ad
I just ordered an Epi El Segundo to dub around on and I have a question: Can regular flats, such as TI's, be used on an acoustic bass or are the frets made of a different material which would be damaged by strings designed for an electric bass?

Thanks in advance,

FC

I have LaBella nylons on my Tacoma Thunderchief, and GHS (I think) flats on my new-to-me Applause.

Try a set of the LaBellas - you won't be sorry! Carvin has 'em for cheap - their ABGs use them, too.

The LaBella's would be my first choice, but the gauges make me nervous- I am afraid I will have to file the slots in the nut and to be honest- I haven't tried that before. I don't want to mess the thing up!

Thanks for the reply!

The frets on an ABG are gonna be made of the same material. Regular flats won't do any more to them than they would to regular BG frets.

Sure, you can use regular flats on an ABG. I use T-I Jazz Flats on mine.

Mine were a direct fit, with no problems. Maybe the nylon has some give?
