I strung my five string J with Daddrio chromes and the fibre or blue part on the bridge wont go into the bridge hole, is it safe to take it off?

Usually called silk, that is.

Not a good idea to take it off, some silks are there to keep the string wire to unwrap from the core. Some of them are just to avoid scratches on the bridge or tuners, but I'm not sure about the Chromes.

It was a pain in the rear, but I removed most of it from the E string (4 string); the rest fit just fine. I did this today, and so far I have not had any issues.

I burned it off on a couple different string sets I've had. It's almost always there to protect the bridge and tuners from getting all scratched up.
