Removing silk from the E string

Sign in to disble this ad
So I installed some D'Addario Chromes on my bass yesterday, and when I went to feed the E string through my BadAss bridge, it wouldn't fit (well the string fit, but only right up to when I got to the silk).

I had to use a razor to cut and then unwind the silk from the bridge end of the string. Once the silk was gone it fit without problem. The A, D, G strings all fit fine, with with silk.

So my question is has anyone else ever seen this, or it this limited to BadAss bridges from some reason?

Thanks!

I usually just enlarge the string hole in the bridge slightly with a dremel tool. Prefer all the string to match visually.

It's a common issue with many bridges.

Thank you for the quick replies. I wasn't sure if it was the bridge or the string. Sounds like both.

I always have to trim the Chromes E for my 75 Jazz Bass. After I trim it I use a touch of elmers glue to make sure it doesn't un-ravel.

When I see all the bridge holes the same size, I don't blame the strings for being different sizes. It's the bridge. & if you think it's bad for E's, I hope you don't get into B's or deeper.
