restringing my mtd

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi..
This is probably totally noob, but I'm posting it anyway.
The other day I was restringing my bass (An MTD Heir 5). I've been using Ashdown Wide boys for this bass for a long time mostly because they're really cheap here, and I dont use it that much. Anyway this time I decided to try the Rotosound Swingbass66 strings. I've heard a lot of good things about them.. so i start restringing, and when I'm done, the winding(cloth thingy) on the strings are either on or below the nut on all but the D string...? it says "long scale" on the package, dammit... What am I doing wrong here?

i had the same thing happen on my stingray with rotosounds, i switched to hi-beams and was ok, the swingbass strings died too soon anyhow.

i think "long-scale" usually means 34" scale basses. i think your mtd is 35", so you'd need something like extra long or something. this is the nomenclature for d'addario strings at least. perhaps it may be similar with other brands as well?

Ah, that sounds fair. Does anyone know if Rotosound makes "extra long"-ish string sets that will fit 35" scale basses?

My set of Rotosound 66's did the SAME THING on my Cort Artisan A5. I just stripped the cloth off. They work now and sound great so I must've not destroyed em too much!

Huh. Maybe I'll try that. So you just used a knife or something? Maybe I can just strip it off to just above the nut, and then apply some kind of glue or something to keep it from coming loose..
