Reusing flats from string thru bridge to top load?

I got a set of Fender 9050ML flats (50-100) that i was using in my Fender Am. Std. Jazz bass but switched out a few months back but kept and now I want to use them in my home made pbass copy w/ top loading bridge. The only drawback that I can see is that the jazz bass I had the flats in for a month or so had a string thru body bridge where the strings were at pretty much a 90 degree angle. I've straightened out the bridge ends of the flats and they look fine, but i'm worried there may be some structural damage to the core of the strings, perhaps making them less stable/prone to premature breakage/sonically imbalanced.
Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing? I'm really not too worried about buying a new set, I work at a music store and get astronomical discounts on fender stuff. But if its going to be the exact same, i'd rather not spend the extra dough. |
