Review of Fodera Diamond Nickel strings

Recently received a pack of these and strung them up. My first impression was pretty good, the strings definitely felt different than my MM fatbeams. But upon opening the pack I noticed that there was a ball of "gunk" on the E string which I have never seen before with all my times buying strings. I usually play MM fat beams 45 65 85 105 so that is the gauge that I bought for the nickels.

The strings definitely seemed like they were very long and on the E string where it tapers before the tuning peg it is very close. The sound initially was not quite as bright as the fatbeams which I know is because of the string composition so that's not a problem at all. In my opinion these strings were relatively more tense than the fatbeams I usually play despite being the same gauge. But the balance of tension between the strings is very even which is also a plus.

The tone is exactly what is to be expected, somewhat of a piano quality. One thing that really stood out to me was that the harmonics really sing on these strings.

Overall a good purchase and value for paying less than 30 dollars.
Pros: good tone, balanced tension, excellent harmonics.

Cons: tension is a little high for my taste, gunk on the string (lol)

I'm not sure if I will purchase these again, I will update in a week once i have broken them in more. But as it stands if I do purchase again i will lower the gauges. Definitely wanna give there stainless a spin as well since i have been playing the DR's for 5 years I wanna make sure I'm not missing anything.

So sorry about the gunk!?! I have no idea what that was and have never had a similar issue...we look forward to hearing what you think after a week under your fingers.

Regards,

Jason

Lol its not a huge deal, it came off with a little work. You guys wind all your stuff by hand though. Maybe one of your string wrappers sneezed and got a little on the string! hahaha

I had a bum G string on one of the sets that I bought. It just buzzed.

Hopefully you contacted us for a replacement and we took care of it?

Alright, I had to take off the Fodera strings and throw back on the DR MM set. I love the sound of the foderas but the tension was just to high and rendered the bass uncomfortable to play. If I buy from Fodera again I'll definitely go lighter.

With that being said, a big thank you to "thumpin" for the excellent customer service, its great to have you in the community.
