what strings to put on a 4003 rickenbacker for nice
bass with powerfull low mids and a good bite without being boomy.

Yeah i know thats a lot.
But thats the question.

pro-steels = nice, but hurts and can be better.
ghs boomers = verry nice, verry nice.. but still something lacking.
half-rounds = beatifull sound, but not in a band. Didn't came tru the mix.
next = swing 66 (105 gauge always for me)

I use only Blue Steels. DR Red Devils are less bright, but still punchy and last a very long time. I am addicted to the Blue Steels though.

I always thought my 4001 bass sounded best with Ric strings.

Yes. The Red Devils will last a long time. The Blue Steels you need to keep clean by wiping them down every time you play, but the set on my 4001 have been on there over 6 months and still sound awesome.

what are the disadvantages of nickel plated steels ?

I 'm going to buy the nickels cus I already had pro steels.
They 're not that different from blue steels (just did read that)
And than I can say whats best for me.
Than buy al brands in steel or nickel !
i did like the steels, but they 're rough!

anyhow, thanks for getting me out of my issues

Ric strings will cost 2 to 3 times what other strings cost ... but they don't sound 2 or 3 times better.

yeah, verry nice.
I wan 't to try them once.
But I 'm 20 years old since last week and here in europe the support from rickenbacker isn 't too good.
Even shops don 't have the basses and the guitars are really really expencive. like 3200 euros (=3700 $ i think) or something. i dont know but its to much.
so i gues i will not get the ric strings
