Rickenbacker 4003 string guage question

Does anyone know what is the thickest string guage a stock rickenbacker 4003 nut could accomodate?

I believe I've had 110-55 gauge flats on my Ric before. I think this was fine but about as thick as it would go. This was a few years ago though. Hope this helps!

Thx for the info. Forgot to mention mine is a stock 2010 4003. Just wonder if the nut change size over the years.

Don't be afraid to make the nut slots wider or cut them deeper.

I used a metal nail file and filed a bit off each inside wall. Worked perfectly.

I use a dremmel tool ... But you can buy nut files. If you make the slots wider and go back to lighter strings the modified nut should still work.
And if you mess up the net it is the cheapest part on your Ric bass and it is really easy to replace.
I find that a lot of basses come from the factory with the nut cut too high.
