The right gauge for my G string

Sign in to disble this ad
I finally believe the right gauge for my G string needs (in regards to slapping, again for my style and preference) should be .042. I've been using .40 for quite awhile and thought this was too light and then switched to .044 and realize this is a tad too heavy. Does anyone know of a standard roundwound SS set that has a .042 G string...can't seem to find one???

If juststrings.com doesn't have it, it proabably doesn't exist. If you have your heart set on getting these strings you could probably order some through Rotosound.

Here's the closest I've found with a simple search on juststrings.com:

-Thomastik-Infeld Round Wound Roundcore Super Long Scale .043
-Thomastik-Infeld Round Wound Roundcore Short Scale .042
-La Bella Hard Rockin' Bass Stainless Steel Wound .041, HRS-B041

Thank you

Just as I thought slim pickin's for the .042...I'm not a fan of the TI strings so I guess I'm just out of luck

it's not the measured gauge. it's the actual tension that matters.

the same gauge may be very different between manufacturers.

d'addario has the widest range of single string gauges i think.

i have successfully put together a superbly balanced set from their XL strings.

Manufacture of the string can have just as much impact on tension and feel as string guage. Unfortunately, this isn't such a cut and dried subject.
