At the risk of being redundant... (Flatwound Content)

So, I asked this question in a thread titled Flatwounds, but figured I'd get a better response by opening another thread, and I felt too overwhelmed to look in the Flats vs. Rounds thread.

So, I just got my fretless jazz bass, and it came equipped with some Flatwounds. Being a diehard Rounds user I've come to realize I really like the sound of the flats on my fretless (I have no idea what kind they are, but it they came on my new SX Jazz). When I do use Rounds I prefer the Ernie Ball Super Slinkies, so I was wondering if there might be some Flats that are somewhat equivalent in tone and price? Any help would be much appreciated. Well, just the very point of tonal differences between flats and rounds shoots a hole in that plan. But, I've been a diehard fan of Rotosound 77 Jazz flats, for years. Great strings. And then recently, discovered Fender brand flats. Much less money, nearly all the good times. Try a set out and see what you think.

Factory seconds of D'Addario Chromes.


A decent set of Chromes should be fine, or Roto Jazz77's.

is teh same true of sx roundwounds? daddario chromes?

DR Flatwound Hi-Beams are nice, have a bright sound along with smooth lows.

If the bass has blue windings it's probably Chromes. My SX fretless Jazz came with some that have black windings, which are probably D'Addario Half-Rounds.
