I'll be buying new strings soon, and I'm leaning towards these cos I like his tone and I'm quite close to getting it now. I'm looking for that punchy middly/trebly attack sound.

It's these, Dean Markley or Slinkys. Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Depends on what year you heard Rob play, around 2004 after he first joined Metallica and on tour in 2006 he used Dean Markley nickel strings. Sometime in 2009 he was endorsed by Dunlop and they made the Rob Trujillo signature steel strings which I think is what he used in the Death Magnetic recordings and may still be using them, not too sure if he still uses them or not.

I like everything about them except that they are steel. Steel strings are just too bright for me.

Not to be picky, but if you don't like them because they are too bright... then don't you dislike the tone of the strings... not just the material? So thus, you don't like the strings at all.

They're not great, lotta wolf tones if you travel up the board and use the middle/low strings.
