Ernie Ball Slinkys. Not the hybrids or the supers. Just the Slinkys. They are bright as all get out with enough mids and punch to blow a hole in your pants.. at least thats how i describe them in my musicman bass.

Tim C. from audioslave uses them, and always has, even back in the rage days. His tone may seem thin, but trust me these strings kick ass for metal/rock.

Whatever feels best to you and sounds the way you want them to sound.

I've gone through Slinkys, Blue Steels, Red Devils, Black Diamonds, Boomers, Elixirs, and Snakeskins.

Right now, I prefer the Elixirs, because they don't deaden. But, then again, I don't play with a pick, so they don't fray on me. If you play with a pick, then I'd suggest something else.
