Roto Trubass vs. Labella Tapewound

Have a possible new bass coming in soon--new to me--a reissue Rivoli. Thinking of putting on some tapewounds. Have used the Rotos before on a Pbass and liked 'em, but anybody have any comments on the Labellas and how they compare? I want THUD, THUMP, and pickstyle THUNK!

LaBellas have more thump but I've always liked the Roto Trubass more. Sounded more like an upright to me.

The GHS Tapes are quite nice as well.

I have basses with both, and prefer the more musical tone of the Labellas. But if you want THUD and THUMP, the Rotosounds are your best choice.

i agree with BobWestbrook... even though he's a Giants fan. Musical is exactly how I would describe the Labellas and Thud Thump is how I would describe the Rotos.

I've used both and prefer the Rotosounds. To me they seem more even in sound and stiffness than the Labellas and I like that the sound approximates a DB

I had a set of TruBass strings and I could not get them to stay in tune for more than half an hour they were way out and yes they were on more than long enough to streach out and settle in. They were on over 2 months played every day but just would not hold tune. I really like the sound . Does anyone else have that problem with them

I used Rotos originally and am now using LaBellas. The LaBellas are brighter and speak a tad clearer. At first I didn't like them as much as the Rotos, but once they broke in I was sold. They are also somewhat smoother. I just put TI jazz flats on my ABG (I originally bought them to try on another bass, but hated the strings that were on the ABG it originally) I'm still not totally they're the right strings for it, but for the moment I'm keeping them on.

I am using-fender tape wounds on my 75-jazz copy.It is identical,to a75-except its a 5-string so I string it EADGC. This bass is also,fretless-and the fenders really sing-but fender doesnt make a tape wound high c-(the c is a La bella) and it sounds just as good as the fenders but feels much smoother.When I change strings again I will go with the La bellas-and if you have ever dealt with the folks at La bella -they will bend over backwards to serve you.Also you can get the Nylon tape wound(deep talking bass) strings at Carvin for a price-you will have to see to believe. Also -under the tape,are theyre hard rockin stainless steel roundwound strings. Be Blessed Chaz.

I think I will go with the LaBellas for my Brice Beatle Bass. The price Carvin has on them is too good to pass up. MUCH cheaper than anyone else sell them for.
