Rotosound Drop Zones

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!
I bought some rotosound drop zone strings with the .175 low string (intending to drop into f# tuning)
The frustrating thing is, the 175 is *just* and I mean *just* too big to go through the hole in the bridge! So frustrating!!
Firstly...anything at all I can try to get the little beggar in? If not would it be sensible to carefully file out the bridge?
Alternatively...does anyone know where I can get a heavy gauge string between 135 and 175 (maybe...150? 160?) as I'm having no joy with our good friend google!
Thanks!!
Al

If the hole in your bridge is just a hair too small I'd file it. For another string in the size you are talking about of 150-160 you might wanna check out the circle k web site. I haven't tried their strings but many people here like them and they have an extremly large selection on gauges.

Round metal file should do the trick. Had to file out couple of the bridge slots of the warwick I used to own cause they wouldnt accept most strings in regular gauge. Nuisance but fixable with file.

The OP obviously doesn't have a top load bridge. So he will still have the same problem. But thanks for the shill post.

I think he may be referring to a ball-end anchoring hole in a top load bridge, not a hole through the body. I guess it could be either But yes indeed, Circle K's have a short tapered section (for very good reason) that may not work with through body stringing.

Another source for big strings is Octave 4 Plus: Round Wound Strings

It's a good idea to maintain 30 pounds of tension so I recommend a .166 from Circle K. These strings are far superior to the Rotos.
