Rotosound Nexus coated strings vs. Elixir Nanowebs

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been curious about the Rotosound Nexus coated strings. I used to use Rotosound RS66's religiously cause I loved the tone, but I changed them too often. I tried some Nanowebs, and found that the tone was pretty close, but the Elixir's lasted a LOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT longer (around 6 months versus not even a month with the RS66's). I'm curious if anyone has tried the Nexus strings and can tell me anything about he tone of them. are they as bright as the Nexus strings? and any feedback on life of the string?

Same question here. I use the Elixirs now because of their great longevity, I'm curious about the RotoSound Nexus's though.

Im curious myself. I have tried just about every other brand of coated strings except for these. Elixirs last the longest out of all I have tried. Someone chime in pretty please.

I think the rotosound nexus strings sound a lot better then elixers. But I dont like how they show wear off from pick use fairly quickly. Elixers of course get furry from pick use and thats worse imo then just coating wear off. Only coated strings Ive tried that both sound great and dont show pick wear are DR neons. Though apparently all of DR's colored strings including black beauties, cool blues, and red devils now use the same k3 coating as neons. Which greatly expands color choices with same coating. As well as also giving some string options like round versus hex core choices.

do the Nexus strings sound as bright as the Elixir's? that's what I like about the Elixir strings. they're a really bright string, and sound almost like Rotosound RS66's.

Elixers dont sound like rotosound strings to me. Their mids and treble is wrong in comparrison and overones are rather odd sounding. Nexus strings where slightly warmer then swing66 steel to me. But still had rotosound string char to them. If your mainly looking for long life bright strings, Id suggest try DR hibeams.

are they coated? I'm interested in using coated strings because I can get about 6 months life out of them. I've only been changing my strings about twice a year, and I play it pretty regularly.

how do you think the Nexus strings sound as compared to the Elixr's? I see they're nickle strings, and nickle strings just sound like dead stainless steel strings to me.

I don't mind the tone of elixirs as they are bright, but they feel a bit too slippery under my fingers.

I don't like nexus at all. They feel lifeless and sound dull IMHO.

I love roto66 though, and dr neons. My first choices

Pulling up a nearly dead thread. But I love the Nexus strings. They are nickel so they aren't as bright as Black Beauties.

They are by far my favorite coated string. My first and only set so far lasted about 6 months with moderate play before I tried out some Black Beauties.

Now aesthetically I could do without the rainbow silk wrappings.

Black Beauties are coated nickel (they are coated Sunbeams).

You may be right my friend. I had emailed DR a couple of years ago asking that question and was told they are coated Hi-Beams. I'll shoot them an email and check. Seems to be a lot of conflicting info.

Rotosound Nexus are "Alloy 52" which I believe is some combination of Nickel & Iron.

I put a nexus set on my 76 tbird. Long storey short after two dead A strings i never did like their tone anyway. I guess i like a lot of zing from my strings and these did not sound right to me. They also had some wierd overtone going on too. Not sure I want to try another coated string after this experience

It's a bit strange that even DR gives conflicting answers to this perennial poser. Some employees say one and some the other; I tend to think they are nickel but that the marketing department got it wrong and so the error persists.

The bootzillaz are coated stainless...

Not the K3 color coated.

Although the black beauty tapered low b strings are stones with hex cores.
