They did that before with the "linea" coating in the mid 80's - or maybe they were just polished smooth or something. In a silver and blue package. Wonder if these are any better...

They make a few different things, I think if someone says Rotosounds without qualifying it in any way they probably mean the Swing Bass set.

They are alright strings, nothing all that special about them. Just a fairly bright, highish tension, stainless steel roundwound. Not unlike a slightly stiffer GHS Super Steel.

I have found the Dean Markley Super Rounds to be very close to the Roto Swing Bass strings. They are also usually cheaper too.Skip the Blue steels and try the Super Rounds.

Were the Linea's any good? If the Rotosounds really last that absymally long, will these be any better?

Also, i need a lower tension, or at least prefer it, as distortion+brite+ampeg+bends/vibrato=yes.

I was too green of a bassist to know the difference. Anything bass would leave me googley-eyed and droooooling. So I liked 'em just fine.

Downtune the bass and you get lower tension, but you still need 100-80-60-45 or a similar set.

My only gripe with Rotosound is that they indeed wear down fingers (and looking at my fingers, most likely frets, too). But the sound, the sound....

I'd downtune, but i do really like A440 tunings, and D standard, drop C, and BEAD tunings i'll only do if i absolutely must.

You could do D-G-C-F tuning, then you get lower tension. I've used this tuning for nine months now, works fine in all configurations. Like to hit the low D as a lot of guitar-centric songs are D or G centric, anyway. And yes, this is with Rotosound LD66 Swing strings.

DGCF is D standard, AFAIK. I just like the zingy-ness of rotosounds, and A440 tuning.
