They're real nice, not so smooth as the EXL170's, but still real nice. I'm not switching over entirely yet, but I might not be such a die hard fan of D'Addarios as I thought.

They still have a big solid bottom and lots of mids, so when the tone is rolled off on my P I can get a smoother older style tone as well. This makes it a very versatile string, especially for the cover band I play in that does a lot of UK stuff, and classic punk as well as more poppy songs.
I love DRs as well but they lack the over the top new Rotos have. I have a J strung with them. |

(Stainless Steel or Nickel Roundwound)
The most popular Roundwound bass string ever. Rotosound was the first string company
to produce this kind of string. Introduced in 1962 it changed the sound of the instrument
instantly. The favourite string of many players including Billy Sheehan, John Paul Jones
and Geddy Lee. Available in all popular gauges and scale lengths. The steel used to
produce these strings is unique, combined with a highly secretive manufacturing process. http://www.rotosound.com/bass.html

I moved from Dáddario to Warwick Black Labels (which are WONDERFUL, but i couldn´t get them anymore) to Roto´s and again to D´addario, i think i have found my tone and the perfect tension in them.
