Rotosound Solo Bass on fretless

A road to Damascus moment.

I took my USA Jazz fretless to practice on Monday and decided I really couldn't cope any more with the string tension or 'dead' sound of Roto Jazz Bass flats.

I've just put on a set of Roto Solo Bass pressurewounds and can't get the grin off my face. My main bass is a Geddy Lee Jazz currently strung with Roto Swing Bass steels (after years of DRs) and I reckon the fretless could one day overtake that. Love the sound and feel - it sings and cuts through far more than with flats :-)

I tried them on my fretless Jazz but found them to be just as damaging to the fretboard as regular rounds but if they work for you then that's great.

I must give a set of half rounds a go one of these days but I still kind of like the flats if I'm honest.
