Which rotosound strings have the red material at the tips?

Sign in to disble this ad
I once bought these rotosounds that had red tips coated with that red string stuff. And then I went back and tried to buy the same ones but couldn't remember exactly what they were. Got them and they weren't like the first..

The first lasted forever they sounded bright for about 8 months
The second pair lasted about 1 week.

I believe they were about 25$ both of them but just cant remember which ones I got..

Question

I'm not sure about this, but from your description of how long they lasted I'm thinking perhaps the RS77's in long scale may have red silk also. I can't imagine 66's sounding bright for 8 months - even with limited use. I've got a set of 66's and 77's right now, but they're both short scale sets, and they're both sporting a very pretty aqua-colored silk. I'm not trying to argue with Wayne - he is correct that the 66's have the red silk - but your description of the string life sure sounds like 77's. FYI, in case you're not familiar with them, the 77's are flatwound, but have a rather bright sound for flats.

RS77's sound bright for about a night of playing... Then they sound horrible. I like the new sound.

I used the SH77's for a long time but it got too expensive to keep them sounding good.

I have a set of Rotosound 77s that definitely have red silk on the ends, too.

Actually the Steve Harris have red and blue silk. Because Steve has to show support to his team in everything.

At the risk of a thread hijack . . . About three years ago I got a set of flats from a local bassist who used them for a week and didn't like them. He told me they were the Rotosound Steve Harris Signature set - but I didn't see the package because he said he threw it away. I have them on my bass now and they have red silk at both ends. Does this mean that they cannot be the SH77 set, but are probably the RS77 set?

The SH77's have blue silk as the winding end.

However, the RS77's are the exact same string but a smaller guage. The SH77's are Steve's custom guage.

They are both Monel flatwounds.
