No seriously though:
Pros:
Bright Aggressive Sound
Price (about $16-$20 a pack for the 4-string set)
Made in England
Roughish Feel
The Tone/Sound
Cons:
The Tone/Sound (if you don't like bright and aggressive)
Rough Feel (if you're a nickel or smooth feel player, stay away)
Can be rough on frets (many factors determine, but Rotos are a bit rough)

| | | Well I guess it'll be perfect for me the only problem will be the fret wear. I'll just have my jazz defretted when that happens then I'll get flats next time |

Don't worry about the fret wear. It's not much more. Frets last years. Say your frets last you about 8 years with other strings, with Rotos, it'll be like 6.5-7 years. Over the long run, it wears frets faster, but not much. There is so many other things that determine fret wear, strings are such a small thing. It's also determined by types of frets (material, size, etc.), tough, style of playing, amount of play time, etc.

If you play a whole lot with a hard touch and slap and bending, you could only have to wait until 2009.

I play blues with only a little slap n pop in the mix, so i don't really worry. Beating on the intrument will ruin more than the frets if your not carful! |

Good stuff.

Slug | So how long do they last with "Fast Fret" (and vise versa)? |

That is, they don't really go all that dead-- just get a little more towards the thumpy end. I keep em on until I notice degradation in the intonation. And even then I leave em on a little longer...

They also lack bottom.

Cons - They are expensive, they die quickly, and they seem to be very rough on the fingers. This last part can be overcome if you play them a lot and build up good calluses.
They seem to be a great string choice if you have some kind of endorsement or inside deal on a good price. But for the rest of us, they seem to be a lot of work for a lot of money, the opposite of what I look for.
YMMV. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
