Rotosounds on a 1987 Fender Power Jazz Special MIJ

I'm getting a used 1987 Fender Active Power Jazz Special MIJ soon (will post pics if anyone is interested) and was wondering if Rotosound Stainless Steel strings will eat the frets?

Shouldnt, unless theyre soft frets and/or your very heavy handed with fretting to include grinding the strings on the frets. Though jumbo frets show less wear then fender style frets in general. Rotosound swing 66 is certainly what Id use on that as first or 2nd pick.

Thanks for the reply, how do I know if the frets are soft? By just seeing if they start to get wrecked?

I use Rotosound swing 66's on my Jazz Bass Specials and haven't noticed any unusual amount of fret wear.

In the late 60's and early 70's frets on some basses were softer. I recall Cris Squire saying Rickenbacker were a bit " angry" with him, as everybody wanted to use Roto's on the bass due to him doing it. Rickenbacker had to deal with higher wear on the frets than earlier when the basses came with flats.
But today I will assume all bass makers use the right fret material.
