Rotosounds, how much tension do they have?

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry for another tension thread, guys. I've been looking at new strings lately. I've never tried rotosounds, but i like the tone they give off. I'm also looking at the heavy set of bass boomers from GHS. My band tunes down to around CGCF most of the time. The heavy gauge of Rotosound swing 66 strings has a .80 for the A and a .110 for the E, but i'm not sure if this is alright for that tuning, considering that the GHS's have gauges going; .50, .75, .95, and .115

I just don't know which one to get. Obviously the GHS's are going to have more tension, but i don't like too much tension. Help me out here?

110 is a little too light for me at CGCF. I definitely prefer 115 for that tuning.

I could have sworn you could get Roto 66s in 115 though... then again, I could be wrong. If you can, and you can find some, get them! 66s are all I play these days.

I wish they had them in 115's. They look and sound real nice. They have cool harmonics to them too

I'm definitely going to have to go with the 115's then, because i have an extremely heavy hand (I play really really hard by nature) and that usually adds some floppy feeling to the strings to begin with.

I'm pretty sure they do have them in a variety of string tensions or gauges. There are RS66LD, LS, LB, etc. and each have different gauges. Not sure if the exact one you're looking for is included but I know that 45-105 is not your only option of gauge ranges in the RS66 stainless steel string version.

I LOVE rotos with a die hard passion!

Not sure how they'll sound downtuned but I'm really digging boomers on my L2k. Great strings

the BS66 Rotosounds have a .110 E-string. I tune it down to C all the time and it isn't floppy sounding. still the best sounding strings I ever used

Haha, maybe I do use 110s in CGCF. It's been a while since I've changed strings on that bass...

I guess if that's the case, I should say would prefer 115s, but would rather use Roto 110s than a different brand at 115.

Thanks for al of the input guys. I think i'm going to buy the set of Roto's, and if i don't feeel that it's enough tension then i'll go to the 115 boomers.
