Round core strings:

Do they respond any differently to harmonics, due to the different properties in the vibration of the string? Or does it have no effect?

In short - they vibrate more freely so harmonics to speak more clearly and ring out a little longer / greater sustain.

Follow-up, DR says that their round-core Hi Beams are unique, does that mean that all other rounds are Hex core, or is that just for Stainless Steel, Nickel maybe somehow being easier to wind around a round core?

There are not many round core string manufacturers anymore as they are more expensive to produce and take longer.

DR Hi-Beams (stainless) / SunBeams (nickel) / Fat-Beams (stainless) / K3 Coated / Legends Flats strings are Round Core
Fodera strings are Round Core (stainless & nickel)
Dean Markley Super Rounds are Round Core (stainless & NickeL)
Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds / Jazz Flats are Round Core (pure nickel)

and well that is basically it...

It's easier / faster to use Hex wire for making strings.

That's all? Thanks for the info.

I wish Prosteels came with a round core ...

Status Graphite Hot Wires, both round core and hex core available.

Huh, I didn't know the DM Super Rounds were round core. Those are what I used before switching to DRs (first Fat Beams, and now Neons). The DRs are a lot lower tension, than the DMs, so I assumed the DMs were hex core. Interesting.

Cheers!
