Round vs Flat on Gretsch Electrotone 6073?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Gretsch 6073 going through Ampeg SVT Classic - over the years I've slowly been searching for that classic sound and now I think almost there...

I am heading into the studio soon and have been thinking long and hard about tone for this record. Overall sound required for the album is ska, eastern european folk, punk, rock. The guitarist uses Gretsch & Gibson so I really want to get away from that tone as much as possible for my bass.

So this led me onto this thread, and well here's my question:

Do you think TI Flats are the way to go for my Gretsch 6073?

Personally I'm thinking they will but wanted to run this by you guys first.

Hi there Steve,

I have had the TI flats on my bass before (GreTsch G6072), and thought they were ok, but not old school. I have Chromes super long scale on there now and like them better after they are broken in. But am still looking for a real old school tone as the Chromes are sort of like Rock flats. Hope your recording session is going well, let us know how it turned out and your experience with the TI flats.

Regards,
