Roundwound v. Flats (buzz?)

Sign in to disble this ad
OK - I learned that my jazz buzzes off the friggin walls with rounds on it - I take the rounds off and put my flats back on (same setup, same 45-60-85-100) and no buzz!

I love the brightness of rounds, but I think I am OK with the low-down growl I get out of my S.I.T. Power Flats.

I tried GHS Boomers on my P-Bass (and Elixers) - BUZZ city! so I put S.I.T Silencers on it - smooth sounding.

I just am not up to speed on the Rounds add buzz? and Flats help stay away, bit.

Any ideas, refutes, explanations?

I had a 73 J bass that I changed to flats on and noticed less buzzing. I would say that flats are less prone to buzzing, maybe because they have naturally higher tension. But I also have a '72 that buzzes a little more (not horribly tho) where it doesn't make a difference what strings are on it. I guess it depends on the bass too.
