Question Roundwound vs flatwound vs groundwound?

Latley I've been looking into flats and halfwound strings for my Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar. I was thinking of getting a new jazz bass soon, and using flats on it, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.
I usually like a decent treble/bass sound out of my bass, and I realize flats aren't the best for brighter tone. But I very much can't spare 30-40 every 6-8 months. (I'm quite poor, lol)
So I was wondering about groundwound strings. I've never played on them, I've never seen them with my eyes before. They're somewhat difficult to come by and stuff. But they don't wear so much like roundwounds. I've heard that they feel a bit grainy or something, and I'd like to know before I go out and buy myself a set for $50.
Also, I don't know how they'll suond on the pickups in my bass. They're the standard Ibanez pickups that come with the modle of bass that I have, and I'm not sure if they'd sound like I want them to. It probably won't make much of a big diffrence, but I was wondering just in case.
Also...where the **** can I find groundwounds???

Half Round Electric Bass Strings from Bass Strings Online.

No use in spending $50 if you don't have to!

Now to hijack the thread: thanks for the link. My computer died. I did not have my bookmarks adequately backed up, so I lost the one to this site.
