I'd say DR Sunbeams sounds like that.

DR Sunbeams. Yep. And what's nice is, those have a nickel plating so they are friendlier to your frets. And their tone seems to last a long time.

Sunbeams are excellent strings, probably the best NPS I've tried. But like most NPS strings, they emphasize the high mids and scoop the low mids. Avoid nickel.

+1 to the SS Lo Riders.

+1 on the DR's-Nickel Sunbeams or Lo-Riders. I use flats and if I use rounds I like these and Duncan Nickels.

I don't think a low mid scoop is typical of the "nickel" part of the recipe. I use Carvin Nickels and they have a strong low mid component. IME, the strings with the strongest low mids were TI Superalloys.

Another +1 on SS Lo-riders, put some on about a month ago and they gave me that lower-mid bump I was looking for, still sounding just as good as when I put them on.

Best roundwounds made ...and I love DR but they break!! Are Rotosound Swingbass 66! They stay hot forever...and dont break. But all that aside you should give flatwounds a whirl. I think they will give you that low end youre looking for ...but lack that roundwound ring. If you want to stick with Rounds up the size for instance on a 4 string setup go with the 110 E. Ive noticed Thicker guage provides some lowend help. But alot of times when you up guage you have to adjust neck ect. .......in other word get the thing setup! Goodluck.

I'm with those who vote for DR nickel lo riders. But that mid to mid low is what I look for in strings, bass, and amp/cabinet. Plus they last forever. I've had mine on my P bass for 2 years of pretty heavy use. They have gotten better with age so far.

I want that strong low mids and plenty of growl! I like flats , but they are lacking in slap area, so nickels are my no.1 choice maybe 45-100 gauge. SS are naturaly mid scooped with that irittatnig highs and non focused low end IME, they are not my cup of tea.

As general trends I agree. I find the a 85 A and 105 E can be more boomy which I tend to associate with low mids. For what you describe I think DA XLs or TI Superalloys would do the job.

I have never bonded with the Lo Riders but many have. And they are typically described as the low mid emphasized.

Have you considered stainless flats? Sadowsky Black Labels would probably do the trick.

Another vote for the Nickel Lo-Riders. At least to my ears, they have somewhat tighter low mids than Sunbeams, that have a slightly more pronounced upper midrange.

I'll toss a vote in for Circle K's. If you haven't tried a balanced tension set on your bass yet, try it. I'm typically a stainless guy, but I wanted to see what a balanced set was like. The balanced .136 set was great for the first few month for me, but I think I killed them off while doing a pickup swap (I restrung them several times while playing around and the sound flattened way out. I don't fault the strings at all for this.). I've since moved on to trying some brands of other stainless strings until Skip gets the stainless sets available.

The Circle K's can be bright, but the low mid, especially with my old Barts had a ton of low punch.

Another vote for Circle Ks. I have them and love them.
