Are these worthwile on a P-bass if I want a really raw growly sound? Anybody know off hand (I've done bunches of searches) where I can get them cheapest?

Steve Harris can get growl out of the flats on a P, so why not the pressurewounds. I don't know about customs in the US, but you'll get a set shipped for around 33$ here (The shop is in the UK)

Good luck.

Yes, the RS55 "Solo Bass" are great. The wire
is "rolled" as it goes onto the core, yielding
a smoother feel and less wear without sacrificing
the roundwound tone. These sets are not often
stocked by music stores, so they're kinda hard
to find. Your best bet would be to contact Rotosound USA directly, you may be able to buy
them direct if there is not a supplier in your
local area. Call 818-505-0158, and ask for
Hammer, he can probably hook you up if you want
a few sets.

Cheers,
Slug

You might want to email your friendly strings forum sponsor (wink wink).

I don't have them listed at my site, but I can get them... and about $5 cheaper than one particular online string megastore.

Are there any issues of dead strings right out of the box with these?

I saw that thread already. But they don't mention 55s.

And I found the 55s here.
